Mackenzie Tour Q-School resumes this week with the third of four qualifying tournaments, heading to the Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee, California.

HOW IT WORKS

132 players will compete at the first of four qualifying tournaments for the 2016 Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada. Here’s the breakdown of the status available at each of the four events:

THE COURSE

Carlton Oaks, a 7,410-yard layout designed by Perry Dye (son of Pete Dye), has hosted qualifying for the U.S. Amateur as well as the first stage of the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament in 2010.

FIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Austin Connelly (Irving, Texas/Church Point, Nova Scotia)
The 19-year old dual citizen of the United States and Canada turned professional last summer after a stint with Golf Canada’s National Amateur Team. Connelly has made the cut three times in five PGA TOUR starts over the past two seasons.

James Love (Calgary, Alberta)
The 2009 Freedom 55 Financial Championship winner and former Web.com Tour member struggled with a back injury in recent years but is back with a clean bill of health and looking to regain status.

Byron Meth (San Diego, California
Meth, who was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 2015 at the University of the Pacific, won the 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links to earn an invitation to the 2015 Masters Tournament, where he shot rounds of 74-76 and missed the cut.

Matt Hansen (Los Osos, California)
A two-time Honorable Mention All-American at UC Davis, Hansen played the Mackenzie Tour last season, recording seven made cuts in 11 starts and finishing 67th on the Order of Merit.

Michael Weaver (Fresno, California)
Weaver was the runner-up to Steven Fox at the 2012 U.S. Amateur, earning him an invite into the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open, where he made the cut and finished T64.

CHAMPIONS START IN CALIFORNIA

Notable players to earn Mackenzie Tour status at Qualifying Tournaments in California over the past three seasons include The Five members Greg Eason, Taylor Pendrith and Sam Ryder, 2015 ATB Financial Classic winner Daniel Miernicki and 2016 Puerto Rico Open champion Tony Finau, who earned Mackenzie Tour status in the 2013 season.
