SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Canó has been named American League Player of the Week for May 2-8. It is the first Player of the Week honor of the season for Canó, and the seventh of his career.

Canó hit .516 (16×31) with 8 runs, 3 doubles, 4 home runs, 9 RBI and a 1.516 OPS in 7 games vs. the Athletics and Astros. He recorded a hit in each of the 7 games and tallied 5 multi-hit games.

In seven games last week, Canó led the Majors with 16 hits, a 1.516 OPS, 31 total bases and was tied for the Major League lead with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The left-handed slugger also was 2nd in the Majors with a .516 batting average, 4 home runs, 9 RBI and was T2nd in MLB with 7 extra-base hits and 2 game-winning RBI. Canó was T3rd in the Majors with 9 runs and was T11th with 3 doubles.

This is Canó’s seventh career Player of the Week honor, having won the award previously in 2012, 2010 (twice), 2007 (twice) and 2005 with the Yankees.
