Kelowna, BC – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team went another step backwards but then a huge step forwards today (May 8th) as their split their doubleheader. They lost to the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners 13-3 but beat the Okanagan College Coyotes 3-2.
Jesse Marks (Sarnia, Ontario) started game one for the ‘Pack. He went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned, one unearned) on five hits and zero walks. He struck out two batters. Dillon Ferguson (Kirkland, Washington) came into the game in relief and didn’t have his best stuff today. He went two innings, allowing ten runs on eight hits and four walks. He also struck out two batters.

Ethan Mohan (Calgary, Alberta) led the offense for TRU in the first game as he went 2-3 with a double, a RBI, a walk and a run scored. Anthony Grouette (Calgary, Alberta) went 2-4 with a RBI. Tony Tabor (White Rock, BC) also collected two hits. He went 2-4 with a run scored. Malcolm Upton (Maple Ridge, BC) went 1-2 with two walks.
Evan Douglas (White Rock, BC) had a triple while Josh Hillis (Calgary, Alberta) also added a base hit.

Tyler Hodder (Fort McMurray, Alberta) started the second game and did what he has done all season for the WolfPack. He dominated the Coyotes and improved to 7-0 in his rookie season. What makes this start standout from all the rest is that he did it after finding out earlier in the week that he lost his house in the Fort McMurray wildfire. He went seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks. He struck out seven batters. Bryant Jameus (Kamloops, BC) got the save for the ‘Pack. He threw two innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out two batters.

Tyler Hodder ends the season leading the league with a 7-0 record and an ERA of only 1.77. Ethan Mohan ended the season tied for the league lead in RBIs with 31. The ‘Pack also finished with two players in the top six in batter average. Evan Douglas finished fourth with a .366 batting average while Tony Tabor finished sixth with a .333 batting average. Tony Tabor also ended with the league lead in runs scored, scoring 32 times on the season.
With the split today, the WolfPack end the regular season in third place with a 13-15 record. They look to take the momentum from their win today into playoff weekend in Kelowna. Playoff weekend starts Thursday, May 12th. The schedule is still to be announced.
