University of Saskatchewan guard Laura Dally has received an invitation to attend the Women’s National Team Phase 1 Camp.
Canada Basketball’s announcement included Dally among the 24 athletes invited to participate in the camp at the Saville Community Center in Edmonton, from May 21-30. The Bright’s Grove, Ont. product is the only athlete on the invitation list to play in the CIS this season. Other participants in the camp come from the WNBA, various European Leagues and the NCAA.
Following the Phase 1 camp a roster will be nominated to travel to a pair of tournaments in Spain and France during which the squad will play five games from June 1-9. The final phase of preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro from August 5-22 begins July 22 in Toronto.
“Laura had an outstanding season and is most deserving of this invitation,” said head coach Lisa Thomaidis. “Laura has worked extremely hard over her career to continually raise her level of play. Being invited to a Senior National team training camp is a reflection of that hard work and the high level that her skills have reached. We are very proud of Laura and all that she continues to accomplish.”
Dally was named a CIS All-Canadian and the Canada West’s Outstanding Player of the Year after averaging 17.2 points and 4.8 rebounds for game and leading the Huskies to their first-ever CIS Championship in March. Dally averaged nearly 20 points per game, including a 25 point performance in the Championship, and was named a CIS Final 8 Tournament All-Star.
