LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western right side Elly Wendel (Caronport, Sask.) along with former Spartan libero Kristen Moncks (Standard, Alta.) and middle Alicia Perrin (Creston, B.C.) will have a chance to represent Canada at the senior level as the trio was amongst a group of 27 players selected for the women’s senior A national team.

Wendel, who will return to TWU this fall for her final year of eligibility, and is coming off a season in which she was named a CIS First Team All-Canadian, joins the senior A team for the first time in her career. Last summer, she earned a spot on Canada’s FISU Games team, but was unable to compete due to injury.

Joining Wendel with Canada’s senior A side will be Moncks and Perrin, who both graduated from TWU in 2015 after helping the Spartans capture both the Canada West and CIS championships. The duo was also part of Canada’s FISU Games team last year that finished sixth overall.

Perrin, who played professionally this year in Greece with Pannaxiakos, has plenty of international experience, but this will be her first opportunity with the senior A team. The middle blocker has represented Canada at three FISU Games, including in 2013 and 2011, and also donned the Maple Leaf in 2012, when she wore the Canadian colours at the U23 Pan American Cup when the Spartans women’s team represented Canada.

For Moncks, who trained with the Canadian ational team this year, this is also her first crack with the senior A team. The former TWU libero also wore the Maple Leaf at the U23 Pan American Games and trained with Canada’s senior B team in the summer of 2014.

The women’s team will play in the FIVB World Grand Prix in early June and will also compete at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup in Santo Domingo from June 30 to July 11.
