The Memorial Cup was donated in 1919 by the Ontario Hockey Association as a memorial to those young men and women who had been given their lives in the defence of Canada during World War I

Red Deer, AB – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the officiating team for the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Red Deer.
 
Four referees including two from the Western Hockey League, one from the Ontario Hockey League, and one from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have all been assigned for the championship. A crew of five linesmen from the WHL have also been selected for the event.
 
WHL referees in the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup include Chris Schlenker of Medicine Hat, AB and Jeff Ingram of Langley, BC who each received their first championship assignment. Representing the OHL is Scott Ferguson of Etobicoke, ON who is working his second championship, while the QMJHL’s Olivier Gouin of Laval, QC has been assigned for the second straight year.
 
Linesmen selected for the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup are Chris Carlson (Edmonton, AB), Kelsey Mahoney (Winnipeg, MB), Bevan Mills (Langley, BC), Scott Sharun (Airdrie, AB) and Nathan Van Oosten (Surrey, BC). Carlson returns for his third MasterCard Memorial Cup on the lines while Mills, Sharun and Van Oosten each received their second championship assignment. Mahoney will work his first MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup was donated in 1919 by the Ontario Hockey Association as a memorial to those young men and women who had been given their lives in the defence of Canada during World War I.  The 2016 edition of the championship in Red Deer marks the 98th time this prestigious trophy will be presented.
