Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League Action

May 21st 2016, Victoria B.C.: The Belles of the Brawl showed Greater Victoria fans why they are the reigning Calamity Cup champions Saturday night by handily beating the Brick House Brawl Stars 291-98.

Solid defense from the Belles blocker lines combined with strong jammer performances, including a 27-point jam from Choka and a 30-point jam from Hot Piece-of-Sass, contributed to the win. Choka’s offensive prowess earned her MVP, as chosen by the opposing team. The MVP for the Brawl Stars, a team comprised of players from leagues in Comox Valley and Powell River, was Mighty Mouse.

Prior to the Belles’ bout, the home town Hard Cores lost a hard fought battle to The Committed from Saltspring Island. After trailing by four points going into the second half, The Hard Cores were unable to keep up with the The Committed, who expanded their lead and won by a score of 192-144. Hard Cores Co-Captain, C-3Ph0, showed she was a leader both off the track and on, and was named team MVP. The MVP selected for The Committed was Iva Meanstreak.

Sadly, fans have to wait a whole month for the next bout but it will be worth the wait as the double header features two hard-hitting home teams on June 25th. The Rotten Apples, the league’s gender-inclusive junior team, take the track first against the Stone Cold Stellas followed by the headlining match featuring the Margarita Villains versus the Rainier Roller Girls. All the action will be at Archie Browning Arena.

Doors open at 5 pm, seats are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online, or at Logan’s Pub, Hive Hair and The Esquimalt Recreation Centre.

The Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League was formed in 2006, and has over 80 players, officials, and volunteers, and features five teams: EOD’s A-Team, The Belles of the Brawl, The Margarita Villains, The Hard Cores and the The Rotten Apples, made up of players aged 10-18.
