Camosun Chargers make all-time best finish at Golf Canada National University/College Championship

The Camosun College Chargers men’s golf team made their best all-time finish at this week’s Canadian University/College Championship, placing fifth overall. Camosun closed today’s round with a collective total of 299, the third lowest score of the day.

The defending champion UBC Thunderbirds dominated the field on all four days and walked away with an imposing 45-stroke win, earning their fifth title with a low of 1134. UVic took silver with their four-day total of 1179 and Queen’s University picked up bronze scoring 1193.

PACWEST adversary, the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, came in fourth while Camosun finished just two strokes back at 1203 (298 + 308 + 298 + 299).

Rounding out the top 10 institutions are Niagara College (1215), University of Waterloo (1216), University of Toronto (1224), Concordia University (1236) and University of Alberta (incomplete).

The Top 3 finishers in the men’s individual division were UBC’s Scott Secord (277), UVic Vike Lawren Rowe (281) and Connor McLellan of the UFV Cascades (283).

Fifth-year Charger Brady Stead finished tied for seventh with a tournament total of 289 (69 + 74 + 74 + 72). Matt Matheson completed the event T26 (73 + 79 + 75 + 77 = 304), Grant Maskiewich T32 (76 + 80 + 74 + 77 = 307), Mac Keats 36 (80 + 81 + 75 + 73 = 309) and Scott Merriam T37 (81 + 75 + 75 + 80 = 311).

“We are proud of how the team came together for this championship,” states Camosun Recreation and Athletics Coordinator Graham Matthews. “It was a historic season for us with the team winning the PACWEST and CCAA Championships and to finish top five amongst the top universities and colleges in Canada is a reflection of the strength of this year’s program.”
