Eves’ teams record three wins at annual Summer Slam Tournament
Victoria B.C.: The heavy hitting Margarita Villains won two of their three bouts at the two-day event in Richmond, BC. Hosted by Vancouver’s Terminal City Rollergirls, the annual Summer Slam tournament draws teams from all over the province and Washington State.
Thanks to strong defensive performances from many blockers, including The Wife of Wrath, The Frenzie, and Tina F. Lawless, the Villains beat Terminal City’s The Bad Reputations 214-142 and Castlegar’s Dam City Rollers 201-133.
The Villains’ only loss of the tournament was handed to them by Camaro Harem, from Jet City Roller Girls of Everett, WA, who came out on top 244-131.
Villains’ Co-Captain No Mer’Sea called the weekend a “smashing success” for her team:
“We couldn’t be happier with the match ups. We are already looking ahead to next year’s Summer Slam IV! Our games were tough, but incredibly fun.”
The Belles of the Brawl, meanwhile, went 1-2 at Summer Slam, winning their final bout 193-162 over The Trampires, from Dockyard Derby Dames of Tacoma, WA.
Earlier in the tournament the Belles were defeated by Dam City 203-163, and just edged by Prince George’s Rated PG Roller Girls 233-219.
Belles Co-Captain, Hot Piece-A-Sass, says she was particularly impressed by some of her team’s newest players:
“I am super proud of our new recruits to our team this year; the grit and heart they put forth was amazing. Even though we had some losses, we played cohesive and determined. It paid off.”
The Eves of Destruction were also represented by a large contingent of officials, both on and off the skates, at the tournament. The referee roster included Fröken A, Amelia Pound, Bobby Flayer and Velvita Slicer; Hexadeci-Mal, Tidal Wade, Faytal X traction, Tumbleweed and reGretel were part of the non-skating officials’ line-up. Eves of Destruction announcer, C-3Ph0, also made the trip to Richmond, and was able to call three of the Eves’ six games. The weekend was a great reminder that it takes more than skaters to make this sport a success!
Endurance was the theme of the tournament, with some Eves playing for both The Belles of the Brawl and The Margarita Villains. Belles skater, Nailer Down, played in all six Eves games over the course of the weekend, while Margarita Villain, Tina F. Lawless, skated in five. For the officials, Bobby Flayer reffed an incredible 11 games!
