Halifax’s Hannah Helm commits to Acadia Volleyball

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University and women’s volleyball head coach Michelle Wood announced today the commitment of Halifax, N.S. native Hannah Helm to the Axewomen squad this coming fall.

The 5’11” middle played for the Tigers Volleyball club for four seasons on the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 along with four seasons with the Citadel High School Phoenix.

With the Tigers, Helm captured two provincial championships with the Under 17 and Under 18 programs. She was named as a provincial All-Star while playing on the Under 16 and Under 17 teams. Helm was a member of the U15 Nova Scotia Provincial Team and captained the U16 Provincial Team who won the Eastern Elites.

Helm was named as the Citadel High School volleyball team Rookie of the Year in 2014 and captured a City and Metro banners in 2014 and City and a Provincial championship in 2015. She capped off her high school career with a City, Metro and Provincial banners this past season.

Helm is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at Acadia, majoring in Political Science. Her grandparents are both Acadia University graduates. “I chose Acadia because of the small town, family atmosphere and the class sizes.  As well as the volleyball team and being away from home, with the ability to go home”, pointed out Helm.  

“Hannah is an exceptional student and demonstrates an all around desire to succeed both on the court and in the classroom”, commented Wood. “She’s invested in her physical development and exhibits all of the intangible characteristics that will lead her to be an important part of our program moving forward.”

The Axewomen open the regular season on Friday, October 28th against Memorial Sea-Hawks at Dalhousie in the AUS volleyball opening weekend tournament hosted by Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s.
