Bakersfield Blaze

Whatever the reason may be, the Bakersfield Blaze are best suited for playing baseball out of a suitcase

For the third consecutive night, the Blaze (36-33) offense drilled the Lancaster (34-34) pitching staff to the beat of 13 hits en route to a 10-7 win.

Not only did the Blaze assure themselves of a winning recording for the first half of the year, but also they ran their road-winning streak to a season-high 10 games.

Bakersfield’s last road loss was a 14-5 defeat on May 23rd at Lake Elsinore before they swept through Stockton (3 games) and San Jose (4 games). The win Saturday upped the Blaze road record to 22-12.

With a brief four-game road trip serving as the last line of business before the 2016 All Star break; Bakersfield is now positioned for their fifth sweep of the year.

Coming from behind, Bakersfield scored six runs in the sixth inning off of relief pitcher Andrew Thome (L, 1-1) to turn a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 lead. Drew Jackson (3 HR) capped the frame off with a 2-run home run that appeared to put the game out of reach.

Although he was greeted with some healthy run support, Tyler Pike (W, 3-5) walked the first two batters he faced in the seventh before giving way to Aaron Brooks. Bobby Boyd’s triple scored Luis Reynoso and Johnny Sewald to make things interesting at 8-5 with nobody out. Brooks then retired Antonio Nunez for the first out, but Lancaster was not done attacking.

Ramon Laureano’s line drive bounced off the glove of first baseman Kyle Petty allowing Boyd to score and after the JetHawks tacked on another run, Bakersfield saw their large cushion fall to a one-run advantage.

Bakersfield was able to add insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings comforting Jake Zokan (S, 2) as he recorded a five-out save to help setup a possible sweep on Sunday.

Jackson led the offense by going 2-6 with his two-run shot and Gianfranco Wawoe chimed in by going 2-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
