In a must-win situation, the Jr. Shamrocks hammered the Nanaimo Timbermen 20-10 at Frank Crane Arena Wednesday night.
The game was close for a period as the Rocks held a 6-4 lead after the first 20 minutes. They traded goals to start the middle frame but Victoria rattled off 9 straight before Nanaimo tallied again, to take a 16-6 lead after 2. Each team scored four goals in the final period. It was an outstanding game for a lot of players but Cole Pickup led the way for the Shamrocks with 5 goals and 5 assists.
Marshal King added a goal and 7 helpers while Nick Prteston had the hat trick. Zack Homer was stellar in the faceoff circle winning 17 and losing 5. Goaltending was split between Mitch Gurney and Trace Birley as Victoria outshot the Timbermen 49-37 overall. Next up for the Shamrocks is a home encounter against the Burnaby Lakers at 5:00 pm Saturday at the Q Centre. They will wrap up the season in Delta Sunday against the Islanders. A playoff spot is still up for grabs.
