Utah Slugger Patrick Flynn of the Bend Elks

The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Donnie Marbut, are Utah sophomore Patrick Flynn of the Bend Elks and Cal State Fullerton frosh Gavin Valasquez of the Yakima Valley Pippins for the week of July 4-10.

Flynn went 10-for-31 with 7 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 homers and 10 RBIs. The junior-to-be outfielder is currently hitting .292 with 9 doubles and 5 home runs. He was a key part of last year’s WCL championship Bend club.

Valasquez tossed a 9-inning complete game shutout Juy 8th vs. Corvallis at Goss Stadium in the Pippins 7-0 win. The right-hander allowed 4 hits while walking one and striking out 4. Gavin is 4-2 with two complete games and a 1.58 ERA over six starts and 45.1 innings pitched for Yakima Valley. 

This past spring, Valasquez made 14 appearances and 2 starts for the Titans and went 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA.
