Eight-time German champions Borussia Dortmund on Thursday embarked on their maiden flight aboard their new “Mannschaftsairbus”. The Eurowings A320 Airbus, painted in black and yellow, with the designated flight number EW 1909 set off from Dortmund to Salzburg from where the team continued their journey to the first pre-season training camp in the Kitzbühel Alps.

“We are impressed with the design of the BVB airplane. This ‘Mannschaftsairbus’ will be a first-class calling card for Borussia Dortmund not only nationally, but hopefully during plenty of Champions League trips,” said Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke about the plane that from now on will fly the team to away matches in Germany and Europe.

The players too were just as enthusiastic about the “Mannschaftsairbus”. “Wow! That is simply fantastic. There is probably no other club in Europe with a plane in team colours like that,” said BVB striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Following take-off in Dortmund, Eurowings-CEO Oliver Wagner said “as the largest airline in North-Rhine Westfalia, we are delighted about the partnership with Borussia Dortmund. It’s not just our home region that connects us, but also passion and enthusiasm. BVB fascinates and brings people together just as Eurowings does.”
