MARINERS ACTIVATE RHP FELIX HERNADEZ FROM 15-DAY DISABLED LIST

LHP David Rollins, OF Daniel Robertson and C Jesus Sucre optioned to AAA Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves prior to today’s (12:40 pm PT) game vs. the Chicago White Sox:

  • ·Felix Hernandez, RHP, recalled from rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma and activated from the 15-day disabled list.
  • ·Norichika Aoki, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
  • ·Mike Zunino, C, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
  • ·David Rollins, LHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/19).
  • ·Daniel Robertson, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/19).  
  • ·Jesus Sucre, C, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/19).

Hernandez (#34), Aoki (#8) and Zunino (#3) will be in uniform and available for today’s (12:40 pm PT) game vs. the Chicago White Sox.

Hernandez is today’s scheduled starting pitcher for Seattle.

Hernandez, 30, is 4-4 with a 2.86 ERA (20 ER, 63.0 IP) with 53 strikeouts and 26 walks in 10 starts. Hernandez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain on June 1 (retroactive to May 28). In two rehab starts with short-A Everett and AAA Tacoma, Hernandez was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (4 ER, 9.1 IP) with 13 strikeouts and 3 walks. Hernandez was 2-2 with a 1.38 ERA (5 ER, 32.2 IP) with 28 strikeouts in his first 5 starts of the season and was 2-2 with a 4.45 ERA (15 ER, 30.1 IP) with 25 strikeouts in his final 5 starts before being placed on the disabled list. In his 12th Major League season with the Mariners, Hernandez is the all-time club leader in wins, strikeouts, starts and innings pitched.

Aoki, 34, hit .369 (24×65) with 13 runs, 4 doubles, 4 RBI, 8 walks and 3 stolen bases in 16 games with AAA Tacoma. Aoki hit safely in 11 of 16 games with Tacoma, including recording 8 multi-hit contests. Before being optioned to Tacoma on June 24, Aoki hit .245 (61×249) with 36 runs, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run, 11 RBI, 22 walks and 4 stolen bases in 67 games with Seattle.

Zunino, 25, hit .286 (80×280) with 47 runs, 15 doubles, 17 home runs, 57 RBI, 35 walks, a .376 on-base percentage and a .521 slugging percentage in 79 games. Among Pacific Coast League leaders, Zunino ranks T3rd in home runs (17) and 10th in RBI (57). Zunino appeared 2 in games with the Mariners earlier this season, batting .286 (2×7) with 2 runs, 2 home runs, 3 RBI and 1 walk, before being optioned to AAA Tacoma on July 6. Since being optioned to Tacoma, Zunino hit .313 (10×32) with 7 runs, 2 double, 2 home runs, 6 RBI and 7 walks in 10 games.

 

Rollins, 26, is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA (3 ER, 6.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 6 walks in 8 relief appearances over three stints with the Mariners this season. Rollins earned his first career Major League win on Monday (June 18) vs. Chicago-AL. Rollins is 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA (7 ER, 30.2 IP) with 26 strikeouts and 1 walk in 24 games with Tacoma this season, all in relief. In parts of 2 Major League seasons with Seattle, Rollins is 1-2 with a 6.82 ERA (24 ER, 31.2 IP) with 26 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28 career games.

Robertson, 30, hit .263 (5×19) with 1 run, 1 double, 1 RBI and 1 walk in 9 games with Seattle. In 9 games with the Mariners, Robertson appeared at left field (6 games, 4 starts), right field (3 G, 1 GS) and center field (1 G, 1 GS). Prior to being selected from AAA Tacoma on July 5, Robertson .262 (65×248) with 26 runs, 8 doubles, 6 triples, 4 home runs, 25 RBI, 21 walks and 7 stolen bases in 73 games with Tacoma this season. At the time of his selection, Robertson ranked T2nd in the Pacific Coast League with 6 triples. In 73 games with Tacoma, Robertson appeared at left field (32 G, 25 GS), secondbase (20 G, 19 GS), center field (13 G, 11 GS) and right field (13 G, 12 GS).

Sucre, 28, hit .125 (1×8) with 2 walks in 3 games with Seattle. Prior to being activated from the 60-day disabled list on July 6, Sucre combined to hit .241 (7×29) with 2 runs, 1 double and 4 RBI in 9 games on a rehab assignment with AZL Mariners (4 G) and AAA Tacoma (5 G). Sucre was placed on the 60-day disabled list on March 1 after having surgery to repair damage in his right ankle on Jan. 26, 2016 in Seattle. He sustained a fractured right fibula during winter ball in Venezuela on Jan. 17. In parts of four Major League seasons with the Mariners, Sucre is a career .176 (39×222) hitter with 14 runs, 8 doubles, 1 home run and 15 RBI in 84 career games.
