Xahria Santiago of Ajax, Ont., won bronze today at the 2016 IAAF World under 20 Championships in the 400-metre hurdles. Santiago, also a World under 18 medallist, was a mere .35 seconds off the Canadian record in securing the bronze medal.
Teammate Mariam Abdul-Rashid was also in the final finishing eighth.
Earlier in the day Charlotte Prouse had an outstanding run in the 3000-metres steeplechase final placing sixth in 9:44.62. The time improved her personal best by almost 15-seconds, smashed the previous Canadian Junior Record held by Geneviève Lalonde of 9:57.74 and the time is also an Area Record.
