Mariners Recall OF Guillermo Heredia from AAA Tacoma

CHICAGO – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves prior to today’s (11:20 am PT) game at the Chicago Cubs:

  • Guillermo Heredia, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
  • David Rollins, LHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma.

 

Heredia (#5) will be in uniform and available for today’s (11:20 am PT) game at the Chicago Cubs.

 

Heredia, 25, hit .340 (36×106) with 21 runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 13 RBI, 7 walks, 1 stolen base and a .385 on-base percentage in 26 games with AAA Tacoma. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound outfielder hit safely in 21 of 26 games with Tacoma, including 11 multi-hit games. Prior to being transferred to Tacoma on June 23, Heredia hit .293 (60×205) with 39 runs, 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 34 RBI, 36 walks, 2 stolen bases and a .405 on-base percentage in 58 games with AA Jackson.

 

Heredia signed with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent on March 1. In six seasons with Matanzas in the Serie Nacional Cuban League, Heredia hit .285 (336×1177) with 231 runs, 57 doubles, 15 triples, 23 home runs and 121 RBI in 374 career games. As a 21-year-old with Matanzas in the 2011-12 season, Heredia hit .343 (125×364) with a .439 on-base percentage and a .527 slugging percentage in 443 plate appearances and won a Gold Glove award in center field. In six games with Team Cuba in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Heredia hit .167 (3×18) with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 2 walks. Heredia defected from Cuba in early 2015. Prior to signing with the Mariners, Heredia had not played competitive baseball since 2014.

 

Rollins, 26, is 1-0 with a 7.04 ERA (6 ER, 7.2 IP) with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks in 9 relief appearances over four stints with the Mariners this season. Rollins earned his first career Major League win on June 18 vs. Chicago-AL. Rollins is 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA (7 ER, 30.2 IP) with 26 strikeouts and 1 walk in 24 games with Tacoma this season, all in relief. In parts of 2 Major League seasons with Seattle, Rollins is 1-2 with a 7.44 ERA (27 ER, 32.2 IP) with 27 strikeouts and 15 walks in 29 career games.
