Local Athletes selected to travel to France with U18 Canada 7s

BC Rugby is very proud to announce that seven local athletes have been selected to represent Canada at the U18 European Championships in Vichy, France.The 7s tournament will take place September 10-11th 2016.

The squad includes a number of athletes located in British Columbia. The team includes Brooke Bazian ,Caroline Crossley ,Sophie DeGoede ,Tausani Levale and Denise Roy. Non -Traveling Reserves Sophie Belsher and Shoshanna Semanutafa have also earned a spot on the list.

Kamloops Native, Brooke Bazian comes from a developing high school focused on rugby this year and had a great show at the Las Vegas 7s tournament and at the Vancouver 7s helping her team win both tournaments.

Caroline Crossley from the Castaway Wanderers will be a standout to watch at this tournament, Crossley has been training with Rugby Canada for over 3 years now and just year was a key player in Samoa for the U18 Commonwealth Youth Games winning a silver medal. And was named to the Canada Womens 7s squad for the Vancouver 7s.
Coming from the club is Sophie DeGoede who played with U18 elite team BC winning the U18 division. Sophie is a fantastic athlete who is an elite basketball player and a high academic achiever, currently attending Canadian Sport School Victoria.

Tausani Levale from Abbotsford BC has been a standout player for her age for years, following in the footsteps of older sister, Nakisa Levale who is apart of team Canada’s 7s centralized program, Tausani will now be representing Canada as well. “She is known to have a mean side step and is an impressive play maker.” -Darcy Patterson
Denise Roy is one of the fastest players in Canada. Once she gets the ball and finds space she is hard to catch and is rarely stopped. Recently sidelined with concussion Denise will come back representing the maple leaf.

Sophia Belsher also from Abbotsford joined Levale and DeGoede at Vancouver 7s winning the division title and being a key contributor to the teams success. Belsher also a key player to the elite BC teams success winning the tournament in Las Vegas and earned herself MVP.
Shoshanna Semanutafa comes from a rugby family but has never played before this year. She debuted at the Elite 7s Trials, was selected for Vegas and has not looked back since.
