CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five current and former Illini will compete in the singles main draw of the Car-X Futures of Champaign, a USTA Pro Circuit Event, held at the Atkins Tennis Center. The singles main draw begins today, August 8, and admission is free throughout the tournament.
Current Illini competing include juniors Aron Hiltzik and Aleks Vukic. Illini alums Jared Hiltzik, Tim Kopinski and Dennis Nevolo will return to their home collegiate court to compete in the field. Aron Hiltzik and Tim Kopinski secured spots in the main draw by earning wild cards. Nevolo, Vukic and Kopinski will start competition today around 11:30 CT while the Hiltzik brothers begin play on Tuesday morning.
Jared Hiltzik is fresh off a doubles title at the USA F26 Future in Decatur on Sunday. The Wilmette, Ill. native teamed up with former Tennessee Volunteer, Rhyne Williams, to take the doubles title 6-0, 6-1 over Nathan Pasha and Dane Webb. The doubles title is Hiltzik’s second of the summer after winning the USA F18 Futures doubles title in Winston-Salem, N.C. with current University of Virginia senior, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski.
Head Coach Brad Dancer on the Illini competing this week…
“I am super excited for all of our guys to compete here at home in the Car-X Championships. It is great to have Dennis kick start the day and you get the trifecta on Monday – Tim Kopinski, Aleks Vukic and Dennis Nevolo – all in one. Brothers Hiltzik get things going on Tuesday and we’ll see how many we can have going through to Wednesday. The one big, bright spot after last week is that none of our guys play each other in the first round.”
