The BC Lions and the British Columbia Football Conference are pleased to announce the players of the week for week 3!
Offensive Player of the Week
Michael West REC Valley Huskers
9 receptions / 173 yards / 2TD
1 reception / 22 yards
Michael and his Valley Husker teammates came out on the short end of a 55-24 score in Nanaimo against the VI Raiders Saturday afternoon. It was not however due to an offense that failed to perform, led by Terry Fox (Coquitlam) grad Mike West. The Huskers completed passes almost at will against the Raiders secondary, especially in the first quarter that saw the Huskers jump out to a 17-0 lead. If the Huskers and West can duplicate their first half performance over 4 quarters they will not stay in the winless column much longer.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kent Hicks DL Westshore Rebels
5 tackles / 1 assisted tackle / 1 sack
For the 3rd consecutive week a Rebel gets the nod as defensive player of the week. In a physical game that did see the Okanagan Sun win the line of scrimmage, Rebels defensive lineman Kent Hicks was a willing combatant. The 6’4, 290 pounder out of Abbotsford forced the Okanagan Sun to fight for every inch in the 27-21 war.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Tiernan Docherty P/K Langley Rams
5 punts 42.5 AVG / 3 of 3 FG (longest 50 YDS) / 6 of 6 converts
The Rams won in a walk for the second straight week (51-7 over Kamloops Broncos) and for the second straight week Rams kicker Docherty is the special teams POW. His punts again put the opposition offense on a long field and he was perfect on field goals and converts. For good measure he hammered a 50 yard field goal…also for the second straight week
