Women’s Soccer Ready To Prep For 2016

Ready to take it one step further in 2016, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s soccer training camp begins Thursday.

The Huskies had a program-best season in 2015 earning the right to host the Canada West Final tournament for the first-time in history. Saskatchewan finished fourth at the event after heartbreaking 1-0 losses in the semifinal and bronze medal matches.

Seven rookies and 16 returners will be in camp for the Huskies. All fans, supporters and alumni are invited to attend any of the practices during the camp that runs August 11 to September 5.

“Coming into the 2016 season we are excited to finally get things going,” said reigning Canada West Coach of the Year Jerson Barandica-Hamilton. “We are looking to build on our success of the past two years and continue to establish our program as a contender in the Canada West. This year will have a younger squad after graduating five excellent athletes. We are looking forward to growing as a group every week and with the talent of the incoming recruits and the continuing improvements made by our established veteran group, we will look to be competitive and keep building our tradition of success.”

The Huskies begin the Canada West season at home on September 10 in a rematch of a 2015 semifinal against the Trinity Western Spartans. The Fraser Valley Cascades visit on September 11.

All Huskie soccer home matches are played on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
