Rio de Janeiro, Brazil- It was billed in local circles as the ‘Battle of the WolfPack Alumna” as Canada took on France in men’s volleyball at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Gord Perrin (Creston, BC) and Team Canada had a Pool “A” match against Kevin Tillie (Sur de Mur, France) as both countries played their third round robin match.
Perrin and Tillie were teammates with Thompson Rivers in 2010-11.
On this day, it was the French and Tillie who prevailed over Canada and Perrin in straight sets (3-0). The scores on Thursday (Aug 11) were 25-19,25-16,25-23.
France is one of the world’s power houses and moves to 2-1 at the event while Canada has fallen to 1-2.
Statistically, Tillie had four kills, two blocks and two digs as he played the entire match. Perrin had a kill and three digs in a set and a half.
Canada continues its round robin on Saturday (Aug 13) when they play Mexico while France takes on the United States on the same day.
Both Perrin and Tillie now play professionally in Poland.
