Rain forced semifinal matches at the $100,000 Gatineau National Bank Challenger to be moved indoors at the Sporthèque on Saturday while the men’s singles matches featuring Peter Polansky (Thornhill, ON) and Denis Shapovalov (Richmond Hill, ON) were delayed until Sunday.

In the first women’s semfinal, 16-year-old Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Toronto, ON) came from behind to defeat world no. 349 Cristiana Ferrando of Italy 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 and reach her second consecutive final in Gatineau. Andreescu will meet either Aussie Lizette Cabrera or American Ellie Halbaueur. Cabrera led 3-1 in the third set of their semifinal before the match was interrupted.

Andreescu and Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) are also through to the women’s doubles final after winning their semifinal encounter indoors on Saturday 6-3, 6-7(7), 10-7 over Brit Katy Dunne and Czech Barbora Stefkova. The Canadians lead Japan’s Ayukawa Mana and Brit Samantha Murray 4-3 in the opening set of the championship match which will resume on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Tristan Lamasine of France and his partner Franko Skugor of Croatia were crowned champions in men’s doubles.

Sunday could feature an all-Canadian final in men’s singles if Polansky and Shapovalov win their semifinal matches beginning at 11 a.m. E.T.
