RIO DE JANEIRO – Coppin State University alum Christina Epps placed 15th overall in the women’s triple jump competition on Saturday at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

Epps, competing for Team USA, leaped 14.01 meters in the qualifying round of the triple jump event.

Epps opened the competition strong with her mark of 14.01 meters. She ranked as high as eighth amongst the pack after her first attempt missing her personal record by a mere .16 meters.

Epps followed her jump with two fouls and barely missed the finals by three spots. Finishing in the top-12 would have advanced the former Coppin State track and field All-American into Sunday’s finals. Epps is the first Coppin State female Olympian and the first Eagle to compete for Team USA.
