LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans tied visiting Haverford University 0-0 in Tuesday night’s preseason friendly at Chase Office Field at TWU’s Langley, B.C. campus.
“It was great to play a different team, one that we have never met before. They are good athletes and good soccer players and you could tell that they were really excited to play out here,” commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “I was not pleased with our execution tonight, we showed that we have lots of work to do. But it was a good experience for us and it was great that we got lots of minutes for everyone and were able to have people grow in their match fitness. And for some of the rookies, who were playing their first match in a Spartan uniform, we able to get the butterflies out of the way early.”
TWU keepers third year Rachel Sydor (Tsawwassen, B.C.) and fourth year Christina Oliverio (Calgary), who made one save, split the back stopping duties for the Spartans, while Kathy Prescott played the full ninety and made seven saves for the Fords.
The Spartans had the majority of the play in the first half, outshooting the Fords 7-0, but were unable to find the back of the Haverford net.
The second half was played mostly in the centre of the park, with TWU holding a 3-2 edge in shots.
