Women’s Soccer Closes 2016 Exhibition Season With Defeat

Edmonton, AB—The exhibition campaign is over for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s soccer team.

The WolfPack played their second preseason match of the weekend in Edmonton on Sunday (Aug 28) and fell to the host MacEwan University Griffins 2-0.

The Griffins scored their first goal in the 41st minute off a scramble.

TRU head coach Kelly Shantz called it a malfunction in the box and said it would be something they would be working hard onto alleviate in the future.

The second half goal came on a shot at the 17 yard line which the WolfPack coach said was a pretty good goal midway through the half.

Alyssa Smith (1st year, Langley, BC) played the entire first half.  Deanna Brady (1st year, Richmond, BC)  and Brenna Worsfold (1st year, Kamloops, BC)  shared the net in the second half.

“We rebounded after a shaky first half and came up with some strong moments in the second half,”Shantz explained. “We learned another hard lesson but as the season progresses, these lessons are important.”

The WolfPack have a first week bye and don’t kick off their 2016 Canada West regular season until Friday, September 10th when they visit the Dinos at the University of Calgary

TRU’s home opener is Saturday, September 16th when they entertain the Pandas of the University of Alberta. Kick off at Hillside Stadium will be noon.
