First round matches continued on Monday at the National Bank International Junior Tennis Open at Parc Larochelle in Repentigny, Quebec. Several Canadians were in action including Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montréal, QC) and Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Toronto, ON).

Both players highlighted the evening session with Auger-Aliassime, seeded second in the tournament, taking on American Sam Riffice. The 16-year-old Canadian, a finalist last year in Repentigny, toughed out a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory.

On the girls’ side, defending Repentigny champion Andreescu struggled in the opening set against Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund, but raised her level in the second to come away with a 7-6, 6-1 win.

Meanwhile, Canadians Isabelle Boulais, Tiffany Lagarde, Layne Sleeth, Alexandra Vagramov, Luka Vukovic, and Taha Baadi all fell in their first round matches.

On Tuesday night, junior French Open semifinalist Benjamin Sigouin (Vancouver, BC) will begin his Repentigny campaign under the lights on Centre Court.
