Cougars Looking In Mid-Season Form


ESQUIMALT, B.C. – Four goals in a span of 6:46 midway through the second period helped lift the Victoria Cougars to a 5-2 win over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in preseason play on Thursday.

Trent Bell gave Nanaimo an early lead with the only goal of the opening frame.

But second period goals from Jordan Passmore, Kenny Britton, and a pair from ex-Buccaneers forward Nick Gomerich blew what was a tight game open.

Anthony Ciurro allowed one goal on nine shots through 30:26 while Dominik Bellefleur allowed one goal on 16 shots in relief for Victoria.

Taking the loss was Cameron Donn who made 29 saves.

Billy Walters and Cougars defenseman Tyler Pang exchanged third period goals.

Victoria finished 2-for-7 with the man advantage.  Nanaimo went 2-for-6.

Next game for the Cougars is Thursday, September 8 against the Saanich Braves.  Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
