Throughout a rollercoaster regatta, helmsman Roman Hagara and the Red Bull Sailing Team stayed close to the leaders, and then they delivered when it counted most – on the final day of Act 5 in the Extreme Sailing Series.

On the rough waters of the Neva River in St Petersburg, Russia, the Austrian sailors battled to three third-place finishes in the four races of the day’s storm-shortened schedule. The result boosted Red Bull Sailing past SAP Extreme Sailing by three points – enough to earn third for the regatta overall.

The Red Bull Sailing Team, which also includes Hagara’s partner in two Olympic gold medals – tactician Hans Peter Steinacher – as well as Stewart Dodson, Adam Piggott and Jeremy Bachelin, now heads into the sixth of eight acts in the Extreme Sailing Series in third place overall with 52 points, just behind Alinghi at 53 points and overall leader Oman Air with 58.

The Extreme Sailing Series action resumes on the Portuguese islands of Madeira from September 22 to 25.
