Everett, WA- The Victoria Royals scored two goals in the opening period to drop the Tri-City Americans 4-2 at the Xfinity Arena in Everett, WA as part of the Silvertips’ annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic.
The Royals opted for an experienced line-up and dressed 14 veterans and six rookies. The Americans went with a mixture of 11 veterans and nine rookies.
Victoria veterans Jack Walker and Blake Bargar tallied in the first period for a lead that the visitors would never relinquish. Gunnar Wegleitner scored the game-winner in the middle frame, while Walker tallied his second of the contest, an empty-netter, in the third stanza. Tri-City’s goals were scored in the second period by Parker Wotherspoon and Michael Rasmussen.
The Royals’ Griffen Outhouse started in net and made 23 saves on 25 shots in the win. Americans’ netminder Nicholas Sanders stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced.
Victoria went 1/6=16.7% on the powerplay, while Tri-City were 0/3=0.0%.
The Royals scratched veterans Dante Hannoun, Regan Nagy, Brayden Pachal and Ryan Peckford along with rookies Dylan Myskiw, Zach Russell, Arjun Atwal, Tarun Fizer and Matthew Smith.
Victoria’s lone home game of the pre-season is set for Saturday, September 10th when they host the Vancouver Giants. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
