Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – The PGA TOUR announced Wednesday that Si Woo Kim, winner of the Wyndham Championship in August, has been classified as a PGA TOUR rookie for the 2015-16 season and will be eligible for this season’s PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Award.
As per the PGA TOUR Regulations manual, a player’s rookie season is defined as the season in which he becomes a PGA TOUR member (including Special Temporary Members) and plays in 10 or more events as a member or finishes in the Top 125 on the Official FedExCup Points List, the Top 125 on the Official PGA TOUR Money List or qualifies as a Top 125 Non-member, whichever occurs first.
Kim earned PGA TOUR status for the 2013 season but played a total of eight events as a member, short of the 10-tournament minimum stated in the TOUR’s regulations under the rookie definition.
Kim enters the BMW Championship 18th in the FedExCup standings. The South Korea native is one of three rookies still competing in the FedExCup Playoffs along with Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo (8th) and Smylie Kaufman (33rd).
The 2015-16 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year candidates will be finalized upon the completion of the TOUR Championship with the winner expected to be announced in early October.
