Storm Passed Through The Victoria Cougars


CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Chris Smith made 14 saves to lead the Campbell River Storm past the Victoria Cougars 3-0 on Friday night.

Scoring for Campbell River were Reid Wilson with his first goal of the season on the power play, Brady Chin, and Reid Wheeldon who scored into an empty net with 25 seconds remaining in regulation.

Anthony Ciurro was again brilliant in net turning aside 39 shots.

Victoria went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Storm finished 1-for-5.

Wilson, who was named the game’s first star, got into a second period scrap with Liam Kinshella.

Elsewhere in the VIJHL, Jake McKenzie scored three times and set up one more as the Comox Valley Glacier Kings held on to beat the Peninsula Panthers 5-4.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, September 15 versus the Peninsula Panthers.  Game time at Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
