TRU head coach Kelly Shantz:

“Look, Calgary is the third ranked team in Western Canada and went to nationals where they lost 1-0 in the final to national champion UBC. They got their entire starting 11 back and added some blue chip players. They are a top flight program.  We knew we were going to be in the ‘deep end of the pool’ today.  We started two returning players and nine freshmen. We made a lot of mistakes. We have a lot of learning to do about shape, position and how to compete.”

He added: “Calgary was big, tough and physical and pushed us around.  We have a lot to learn in that regard and it will only come with more experience. The girls are down but not out.  We will look to tomorrow and put up a better fight tomorrow.”

On his roster: “ I am not going to single anyone out but there was a lot of hard work by a lot of people. We have to learn to work more efficiently, more cleanly and more as a unit and that will only come with time. Five new coaches, 13 new players out of 18 on the roster.  We look for continued improvement tomorrow.”

TRU visits the University of Lethbridge on Sunday.   Calgary entertains UBCO Sunday.  WolfPack home opener is Saturday Sept 17, 2016  at Hillside Stadium at noon when they entertain the University of Alberta Pandas.
