(Vancouver) It was a night to remember for first-year Leo Jeremiah Johnson as the talented running back highlighted the team’s offensive explosion last Friday in a 38-27 win over the Montreal Alouettes, earning a CFL Player of the Week nod in the process.
Johnson enjoyed a career night in his sixth appearance this season, rumbling for 159 rushing yards on 16 carries for a lofty 9.9-yard average carry with three majors. As a team, the Lions dominated the game and the stats sheet piling-up 585 total yards including 252 along the ground on the way to a third-consecutive win and an 8-3 record on the year.
“Personally, I thought I did well hitting holes but it’s not only about me,” Johnson said of his heroics Friday. “It’s those front five that are blocking their butts off every single play. I’m grateful for those guys, grateful for the play calling, grateful for Jonathon throwing the balls and making it hard for them to figure out if it was run or pass.”
The Lions are currently in second spot in the West Division and face the Edmonton Eskimos in a key West Division road tilt on Friday, September 23 before returning home to take on the Ottawa RedBlacks on Saturday, October 1 presented Tim Hortons
