KENT, September 14, 2016 – The Seattle Thunderbirds have five players taking part in NHL Training Camps.
Center Mathew Barzal was selected by the New York Islanders in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft. He is taking part in the Islanders Training Camp which starts Friday at the Northwell Health Ice Center at Eisenhower Park on Long Island.
Barzal had 88 points on 27 goals and 61 assists last season. He added five goals and 21 assists for 26 points in 18 playoff games last season. In three seasons with the T-Birds Barzal has 199 points on 53 goals and 146 assists in 161 games.
The Columbus Blue Jackets selected right wing Keegan Kolesar in the third round, 69th overall, in the 2015 Draft. Kolesar left September 6 to join the Blue Jackets for preparations for their appearance in the annual NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The tournament is fromSeptember 16 to September 20. Blue Jackets veterans and rookies will open their Training Camp on September 22.
Kolesar had 30 goals and 31 assists for 61 points last season. He had seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 16 playoff games. Kolesar has 51 goals and 56 assists for 107 points in 189 career games over three seasons.
The Edmonton Oilers selected defenseman Ethan Bear in the fifth round, 124th overall, in the 2015 Draft. Bear is leaving today for Penticton to play for the Oilers at the Young Stars Tournament from September 15 to September 19.
Bear played in 69 games last season and had 19 goals and 46 assists for 65 points. He led WHL defensemen in scoring in the playoffs last year with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists in 18 games. In three seasons with the T-Birds Bear has 122 points on 38 goals and 84 assists in 197 games.
Defenseman Turner Otttenbreit has been invited to the Prospects Camp of the New York Rangers. He left today and will play in the Traverse City Tournament, which begins on September 16.
Ottenbreit had five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 69 games last season. Ottenbreit had a goal and two assists in 18 playoff games.
Center Scott Eansor has been invited to the Rookie Camp of the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens Rookie Camp takes place September 15 to September 21 in London, Ontario.
Eansor played in 55 games last season and had 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points. In 18 playoff games Eansor had seven goals and six assists for 13 points. In 179 career games over three seasons Eansor has 29 goals and 62 assists for 91 points. Eansor won a bronze medal last year with Team USA at the World Junior Championship.
The T-Birds start the 2016-17 Western Hockey League regular season on the road against the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, September 24, at7pm at the Moda Center.
The T-Birds home opener is Saturday, October 1, at 7:05pm against the Winterhawks at ShoWare Center.
