Langley, BC- Victoria Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse turned away all 23 shots he faced to shutout the Vancouver Giants 2-0 in the teams’ final contest of the pre-season.
Each team once again went with an experienced line-up as Victoria dressed 12 veterans, while Vancouver iced 11.
The Royals’ Ty Westgard scored the first goal of the contest, and game winner, with 12 seconds remaining in the first stanza. In the third period, Victoria forward Ethan Price tallied the insurance marker in style when he stepped around a Giants’ defender, drove to the net, and fired the puck top corner to beat netminder Ryan Kubic.
Vancouver goaltender Kubic made 25 saves on the 27 shots he faced throughout the contest.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the powerplay. The Royals held a 0/3=0.0% mark, while the Giants went 0/2=0.0%.
Victoria scratched veterans Carter Folk, Ryan Peckford and Keith Anderson; along with regulars Jack Walker, Tyler Soy, Chaz Reddekopp, Matthew Phillips and Ralph Jarratt who were all away attending NHL training camps.
The Royals concluded their WHL Pre-Season schedule with a 5-1-0-0 record.
Victoria kicks off the 2016-17 regular season with a tilt against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, September 23rd with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. The club will raise both their WHL Regular Season Championship and BC Division Championship banners earned during the 2015-16 campaign.
