The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Everett Silvertips 3-2 in a shootout Friday night in a preseason game at the ShoWare Center.
Alexander True was the only shooter to score in the shootout. Seattle goalie Carl Stankowski stopped all three Everett shooters.
The T-Birds are in Everett on Saturday at 7:05pm to finish out the preseason.
Seattle took a 1-0 lead at 2:08 of the first period on a goal from Sami Moilanen. Elijah Brown passed the puck from the left circle across to Moilanen in the right circle. Moilanen one-timed the pass over Lasse Peterson’s glove for his first preseason goal. Nolan Volcan had the second assist.
Seattle outshot Everett 10-4 in the first period.
Everett tied the game1-1 with a five-on-three power play goal by Lucas Skrumeda at 3:30 of the second period. Patrik Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne had the assists.
The T-Birds took the lead back at 15:52 of the second on a power-play goal by Moilanen. Jarret Tyszka skated down from the left point and took a shot at the bottom of the left circle. The rebound came to Moilanen in the slot and he chipped the puck over Peterson for his second goal of the night. Alexander True had the second assist.
Everett outshot Seattle 14-9 in the second period. The T-Birds led 19-18 in total shots after two periods.
The Silvertips tied the game 2-2 at 8:26 of the third period on a power-play goal from Riley Sutter. Skrumeda and Devon Skoleski had the assists.
Everett led 28-23 in shots after 60 minutes.
The T-Birds killed off an Everett power play early in the overtime.
Stankowski made 27 saves on 29 shots in the win.
Peterson made 21 saves on 23 shots.
The T-Birds open the 2016-17 season in Portland against the Winterhawks on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00pm in Portland.
