Victoria secures 1998-born forward

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce the signing of 1998-born forward Gunnar Wegleitner to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement.

Wegleitner was listed to the Royals’ 50-man protected player list early this month after he attended the Royals’ Training Camp. Each WHL team is allowed to protect 50 players which includes individuals who have either been signed, drafted or listed by their respective club.

In six games this pre-season, the 6-1, 190 lb forward tallied three points (1g-2a).

The native of Vancouver, BC spent last season with the Surrey Eagles of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Over 14 contests, Wegleitner collected two points (1g-1a) along with four minutes in penalties. Wegleitner also played for the Everett Silvertips during the 2014-15 and registered one goal and six penalty minutes in 43 games.

Victoria kicks off the 2016-17 regular season with a tilt against the Prince George Cougars this Friday and Saturday with puck drop for both contests set for 7:05 p.m. On Friday night, the club will raise both their WHL Regular Season Championship and BC Division Championship banners earned during the 2015-16 campaign.
