VICTORIA – The first tournament of the year ended with a second place finish for UVic’s women’s golf team, as the Vikes finished with a combined total of 665 over two rounds to finish 23 shots behind Oregon Tech in Gleneden Beach, Oregon.
Laura Ferreira led the way for the Vikes at the tournament, finishing 20-over-par overall in a tie for fourth place. Behind her was first year Rhiannon Jones in a tie for eighth, Nicole Gargarella in a tie for 10th and Melanie Murchison in a tie for 13th.
Jones and Murchison tied for the best Vikes round on Tuesday, both shooting a 10-over-par 81. Ferreira, who entered the day in a tie for first place after shooting a seven-over-par 78 on Monday, finished out the tournament with a 13-over-par 84.
Next up for the Vikes is a trip to Washington, where they will take part in the Wester Washington University Fall Classic from September 26-27.
