Roller Derby returns to Langford 10 years after inaugural Eves bout

Victoria B.C.: The annual league championship bout will take place at Langford’s Eagle Ridge Arena Saturday September 24th, 2016, in homage to the first ever Eves of Destruction bout that took place there a decade ago.

The headlining match at the “Rumble at the Ridge” features the reigning league champions, The Belles of the Brawl, and the hard-hitting Margarita Villains, who are hungry to regain the crown. Both teams have won the Calamity Cup twice since the championship game’s inception in 2012.

League Vice-President, C-3Ph0, says “We’re very excited to bring roller derby back to Langford; our 10th season has been an amazing journey and what better place to end it than where it all began!”

The Eves of Destruction’s junior team The Rotten Apples will take the track in the opening bout versus Nanaimo’s Candy Crushers.

The family friendly event features a 50-50 draw, Beer Garden and Concession. There will also be special prizes for fans who walk, ride, skate or bus to the game — part of the Capital Regional District’s “People Power” active transportation campaign. Fans are encouraged to “Boldly Go! Leave your auto!”. To encourage fans to leave their car behind, a $5 round-trip bus has been arranged to/from Logan’s Pub on Saturday night. Tickets are available at Logan’s.

Doors open at 5 p.m.. The junior game starts at 5:30, followed by The Calamity Cup showdown at 7:30. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door; they can be purchased online, or at Logan’s Pub, Hive Hair and Goldstream Tattoo.
