Former Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association (CVMHA) Official Liam Reid has been hired by the WHL to work the upcoming 2016/17 hockey season. The 20 year old Reid worked his first game Sept 24th, the Victoria Royals vs. the PG Cougars.
Reid began officiating for the CVMHA at age 12 and quickly began to gain attention, at age 14 he was the CVMHA & Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) Official of the year, age 15, he was invited to Officiate at the Team BC Bantam tryouts in Kelowna & later that season was invited to the BC Hockey Officials Program of Excellence (OPOE) held in Salmon Arm BC. He began working VIJHL games as a 16 year old, and was hired by the BCHL in 2014 to Officiate Jr A hockey on Vancouver Island.
Reid has also been invited by Hockey Canada to attend their Officials Program of Excellence being held this month in Richmond BC.
Comox Valley Minor Hockey has produced many excellent officials over the years and their Executive & adult Officials should be applauded for the time & effort they put into mentoring these young Officials.
Reid is not a one sport athlete, he played goal for the Comox Valley Wild Lacrosse Association for 8 years and in 2013 was drafted by the Victoria Jr A Shamrocks. He spent 3 years with the Rocks organization, but decided this past season to drop back to Jr B Lacrosse where he helped the Saanich Tigers win a Bronze medal at this years Provincials. Reid was named to that Tournaments 2nd. All Star team.
