Victoria – Gorge Fc vs Vic West FC was the ISN “Game Of The Week” , and for a scoreless draw – it was actually quite exciting.
Gorge FC came out firing early and created several chances early on. They could have been up 2 or 3 but there chances either missed the net or easy pickings for Keeper Hide Ozawa of Vic West FC.
Halftime came, scoreless – but not for lack of chances. Jon Shaw, Jordie French, and Dominic Colantonio created their fair share – nothing to show for their efforts. Derek Degroot of Vic West probably had their best chance of the half, header going wide.
The second half had more of the same. Cardin Davis was close to getting Vic West on the board first, but an in tight save from Gorge Keeper Iain Walker kept things at 0-0. Gorge kept pushing and Keeper Izawa of Vic West had to make one of his best saves of the game as Kevin Jones had a header that looked like was going into the corner.
The rest of the game had Gorge creating more chances, but unable to finish them.
Both teams were missing key pieces to their lineup. 2 former Vic West players (Drew Brittain & Aaron Murphy) from last year that joined Gorge this year were on the injured list. Vic West was missing one of the best midfielders in the division – Bryan Taylor.
The 1550’s player of the game was CB Matthias Raps of Vic West. He was busy on the evening chasing down and holding the Gorge forwards off the scoresheet.
A good match on a decent evening at Finlayson Turf.
Both teams remain undefeated but leave an extra 2 points on the table.
