October 9, 2016 Saanich, BC ( ISN ) – The Harewood Dawgs of Nanaimo surely saw enough of the color red on Sunday afternoon as the Victoria Renegades peewee and junior bantam teams put a leash on the Dawg’s offense on their way to a pair of lopsided wins, outscoring the visitors by a combined margin of 121-13 in Vancouver Island Conference Football Association play.
PeeWee Renegades vs Dawgs ( 60-0 )
In the opening game of the day, the now 5-0 PeeWee Victoria Renegades had no trouble retaining their unbeaten streak against the Dawgs, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard while putting sixty points of their own up on the legs of a consistent ground attack, muzzling the Dawgs in the 60-0 win.
For the Harewood Dawgs, the 2016 season hasn’t been kind. Sharing a position in the bottom half of the standings with three other teams in the ten-team division, the Dawgs have yet to find their bark this season. The Dawgs, posting a 1- 4 record, only have three games remaining to salvage their season.
For the Renegades, they too with only three games remaining, get a bye week after the Thanksgiving Day holiday before a collision with the 4-1 Westshore Warhawks. A playoff berth in sight, the Renegades will look to their defensive genius to carry them into the post season. At the mid-season mark the Renegades have shut out the opposition in three of five games, only allowing a total of 30 points against in the other two contests while posting a division-high 230 points offense to their credit.
JB Renegades vs Dawgs ( 65-13 )
The junior bantam Victoria Renegades extended their undefeated record as they look toward the playoffs, defeating the third place Dawgs 65-13.
With only half the season in the books the Charly Cardilicchia-coached team has already posted an incredible 259 points, with a points for / against average of 5.8 – 1 to hold top spot.
The Renegades would jump out to at commanding 33-0 lead late into the first half, taking advantage of four Dawgs fumbles to play the short end of the field scoring five TD’s in the process engineered by QB Caeden Reiter under center.
The Dawgs would finally find a offensive glimmer late in the first half in kicker / rusher Sean Duquette. Duquette, using his size and speed, would account for all his teams scoring on the afternoon, rushing for two TD’s in dominating fashion in the losing cause. The Dawgs would erase the donut on a QB Kaya Saunders handoff to Duquette for his first scamper to the endzone to put his team on the board to close out the half trailing 33-7.
The Renegades, adjusting to the play of Duquette and company, would go onto score four more TD’s in the second half of play, shutting down the Dawgs to post the 65-13 win.
For the Renegades, a balanced team attack saw six different players run to the house on afternoon.
