Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that forward Eric Florchuk has been named to Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Team for the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The annual tournament takes place from October 30th – November 5th in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. The tournament will feature three Canadian teams – Canada Black, Canada Red and Canada White. The rosters for the three squads will be finalized next week.
Last year, the 6-1, 164 forward won a gold medal with Team Alberta at the 2015 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup. Florchuk finished second in tournament scoring with five points (3g-2a) in four games and was also named to the all-star team.
A native of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Florchuk is in his rookie season with the Royals and has recorded six penalty minutes in six games.
Florchuk was Victoria’s first round pick, selected 13th overall at the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
Victoria continues their road trip tonight against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Victoria will conclude their trip on Friday vs. the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Puck drop for both contests are at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
