Calgary, AB—It was a .500 day for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team at the Dino Cup in Calgary.

The WolfPack rebounded after a 3-1 loss to the host Calgary Dinos with a 3-1 victory over the Queen’s University Golden Gaels.  The scores on Friday (Oct 14) night were :25-15,23-25,25-11,25-16.

“The guys seemed to learn their lesson from the first match,” stated WolfPack interim head coach Mike Hawkins. “They came out really playing smart, tactical volleyball. We put a ton of pressure on Queen’s from the service line, which put them in tough spots offensively. That fueled our block defence, where we were disciplined and ended with a huge 17 stuff blocked. On cue from our release previewing the weekend, Jake Hamilton (1st year, setter, Calgary, AB) looked much more relaxed than he has all pre season and ran a great offense. A lot of the guys stepped up tonight.”

TRU was led by Randy Grundmann (4th year, outside hitter, Winnipeg, MB) with 13 kills and two stuff blocks.  Tim Edge (3rd year, outside hitter, Langley, BC) added 10 kills, two blocks and a service ace.

The WolfPack wind up the tournament on Saturday (Oct 15) when they meet up with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. The Bears will be the first regular season opponents for Thompson Rivers when the two clash on the Warner Rentals court at the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday, October 28th. Game time will be 7:45 pm.
