VICTORIA – The Carleton Ravens continued their undefeated pre-season on Friday night, handing the University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team a 106-52 loss as part of the House-Laughton Tournament in Ottawa.

Last year’s CIS champions – winners of six straight national titles and 12 of the last 14 – pulled away from the Vikes in the second quarter to record their 10th-straight exhibition win. After outscoring Victoria 47-28 in the first half, the Ravens combined for 59 points through the last two quarters.

Grant Sitton led the Vikes with 19 points through 30 minutes, adding a team-high seven defensive rebounds to boot. Fellow returnee Justin Kinnear and first year Scott Kellum followed him on scoresheet with nine and seven points, respectively.

Connor Wood put on a show for the Ravens, knocking down six of eight three attempts and nine of his 15 shots from the field to finish with 28 points. Emmanuel Owootoah came off the bench to add 16 points, all while keeping the Vikes on edge with six steals in 15 minutes of play.

The Ravens were able to capitalize on their chances without much trouble in the latter half of the game, shooting over 65% from the field while holding the Vikes to just 34%. Carleton benefited from strong bench performances in the win, with 62 of 106 points coming from players other than starters.

The game served as a chance for the Vikes to get a number of their players into action against a tough opponent. Kellum and JJ Hamel Carey each played significant roles for the Vikes in the loss, as did new-comer Wayne Tucker Jr. Each played double-digit minutes against a team that will challenge for the national title once again this season.

The Vikes are back at it tomorrow against the Western Mustangs, who beat Laval 72-66 on Friday. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. PT.
