LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans lost 3-1 to the Mount Royal Cougars in preseason men’s volleyball Friday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC. The 13-25, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22 loss stops the Spartans winning streak at nine games and drops them to 12-3 in preseason play.

“Hard lesson for us tonight. We got thoroughly beat in every position tonight. They outplayed us in every spot. Their passing was great and our passing struggled,” commented TWU head coach Ben Josephson. “That was the first loss that we have taken this year where we have been thoroughly outplayed. The other losses were a combination of our errors and our opponents playing great. But tonight we didn’t make a ton of errors, our opponent just thoroughly outplayed us.”

“It is always good to take a good old fashioned butt kicking in the pre-season. I believe in the character of our kids and I am excited to see them respond tomorrow,” added Josephson. “We have one more preseason match before we start playing for real.”

Next up for the Spartans is on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. when Trinity Western will match up against UBC Okanagan.

The defending CIS men’s volleyball champion Spartans open Canada West conference play Friday, October 28 in Regina against the Cougars. TWU’s home opener is Friday, November 4 when they will host the Calgary Dinos.
