The Silverbacks (8-9-0-0) earned four of a possible six points this past weekend on the road, including back-to-back wins on Vancouver Island and in the Lower Mainland.
The Silverbacks finished the trip on yesterday (Sunday) with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Coquitlam Express (6-9-1-0). Carson Bolduc’s fourth of the season opened the scoring at 9:05 of the opening period, and on the power-play.
Justin Wilson’s third of the season at 14:24 of the first period gave the visitors a 2-0 lead into the second period. The ‘Backs outshot the Express 14-9 in the first frame.
Mitch Skapski finished the scoring in the middle period with his seventh of the season at 14:14. The second goal in as many games for the Silverbacks captain and the ‘Backs second power-play goal of the game.
The Silverbacks outshot the Express 8-7 in the second period and 7-6 Silverbacks in the third. Brandon Kegler stopped all 22 shots on Sunday for his first shutout of the season and earned his second win in as many days.
The Silverbacks finished 2-for-7 with the man-advantage and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty-kill on Sunday, the second game in as many weekends that the PK has not allowed a goal. The Express beat the ‘Backs 3-1 in Salmon Arm in September, the first of the two regular season meetings.
The Silverbacks came back from a 2-0 first period deficit on Saturday and won 4-3 in double overtime over the Nanaimo Clippers (8-6-0-2), and the weekend began with a 6-2 loss to the Powell River Kings (11-7-0-0) on Friday.
Carter Cochrane, Julian Timba, Josh Latta all missed the weekend and remain out of the Silverbacks lineup with injury. Max Wutzke sat out on Sunday, as well as Saturday in Nanaimo. Jake Heerspink was scratched on Friday in Powell River.
The ‘Backs now have a road record of 6-4-0-0 and will visit the Trail Smoke Eaters (7-8-0-1) on Friday at 730pm. The Silverbacks next home game is set for this coming Saturday, October 29th when they will host the Victoria Grizzlies (9-2-3-2) at the Shaw Centre at 7pm.
