Swift Current, SK – Swift Current Broncos’ Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Manny Viveiros introduced the hockey club’s team captain and alternate captains for the 2016-17 Western Hockey League season.

Viveiros stated that the players will wear the crests beginning on Friday night against the Seattle Thunderbirds, with 19-year-old centre Glenn Gawdin sporting the “C” on his jersey.

Gawdin is in his fourth season with the Swift Current Broncos and becomes team captain, replacing graduated forward Jon Martin, who is currently a prospect with the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks.

The native of Richmond, BC was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round, 116th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Through 12 games this season, Gawdin has notched 14 points (8g-6a), including four game-winning-goals. For his career, Gawdin has amassed 143 points (52g-91a) in 205 career WHL games all with Swift Current.

Furthermore, Lane Pederson, Max Lajoie and Kade Jensen will serve as alternate captains for the duration of the 2016-17 season.

A three-year WHL veteran, Arizona Coyotes prospect and Saskatoon, SK native Lane Pederson has recorded 89 points (32g-57a) in 149 career WHL games while blue liners Max Lajoie and Kade Jensen have 84 (16g-68a) and 40 points (12g-28a) respectively. Lajoie was selected in the fifth round, 133rd overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Swift Current plays back to back home games this weekend on Friday and Saturday night at the Credit Union i-Plex.
