October 27th 2016, Victoria B.C.: The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is proud to announce today that Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League has been accepted as an “Apprentice” affiliate of the WFTDA, the governing body for women’s amateur flat track roller derby. Eves’ President, The Wife of Wrath, is excited about what this means for the league and for Victoria sports:

“I’m so excited it’s finally happening. Our league has put in a lot of work over the last few years, and it’s really starting to pay off. I’m grateful to all our league members, past and present. I look forward to learning from the leagues that have gone before us and bringing an even higher level of roller derby to Vancouver Island, in particular to our amazing fans here in Victoria!”

As an Apprentice affiliate of the WFTDA, the Eves join the ranks of more than 300 all-female, skater-owned-and-operated leagues worldwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women’s flat track roller derby.

WFTDA apprentice leagues are matched with veteran member leagues who guide them in the processes and requirements necessary to become a full member of the Association.  WFTDA Apprentice leagues are considered “pre-members” of the WFTDA and have access to many of the resources and benefits of full WFTDA membership.

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association is the governing body for women’s flat-track roller derby, and a membership organization for the leagues to collaborate and network. The organization created and maintained the first standardized ruleset for the flat-track game. This ruleset, now in its fourth edition, is what the Eves of Destruction have played under since their inception. The WFTDA also serves as the sanctioning body for games, hosts tournaments, sets safety standards and provides insurance to athletes and leagues. There are currently 355 WFTDA member leagues and more than 71 apprentice leagues worldwide.

The Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League was formed in 2006, and has over 70 players, refs, and officials, and features five teams. The EOD A-Team, The Belles of the Brawl, The Margarita Villains and The Hard Cores. The league also has a gender-inclusive Junior team, The Rotten Apples, made up of players aged 10-18.
